Snowbird, UT 2023

Starting as far back as the memory will go.
We try our best to get out West every winter to ski. Snowbird has become a favorite place by far, with its ample supply of fresh snow, cozy accommodations, nice restaurants, and the convenience of a shuttle from and to Salt Lake City airport (only 35 minutes!).
We had to skip one season in 2022 since the resort was fully booked, which led to an unforgettable trip to the Sunshine Village in Banff, Canada, very well worth its own blog post. But in 2023, back to Snowbird we go!
And the Snowbird did not disappoint! There was almost too much powder if such a thing exists. They had to use their cannon to trigger the avalanches and make it safer for us. We booked a group lesson which was made less enjoyable by three things. One, our all-mountain rental skis were not good enough for the waist-deep powder, making it harder to link good turns. Two, a young fellow in our group kept falling and getting buried in the snow, and the whole group had to wait for him to get back on his skis. And three, and worst of all, the fog limited the visibility. Still, it would be a lie to say that we did not enjoy ourselves!
Vasily joined us for one day of skiing, which was great fun. He was planning to join us for one more day later in the week but, due to an unfortunate turn of events, caught a cold from me and was too sick to go.
Besides battling a cold and coughing like a madman, another memorable but not quite enjoyable moment personally for me was when my skis caught up on a small pine tree that was barely sticking out a few inches from the snow, and I did a not quite full front flip, landing flat on my back. Always wear a helmet!
Later in the week, the snowfall stopped and the sun came out, allowing us to take some good pictures.
